Foundation Financial Group employees at the Dallas, Texas office located at 1903 Central Drive, Suite 201, participated in an event throughout the month of November. The movement, known as Movember, consists of men growing out their facial hair to raise vital awareness and funds for mens health issues, specifically mens cancer initiatives. The men at Foundation Financial Groups Dallas office grew out their moustaches.
The mission of Movember is to promote awareness of primarily male illnesses. Specifically, the movement targets prostate and testicular cancer. In 2011, over 854,000 global Movember partakers raised $ 126.3 million. Since the movements creation in Melbourne, Australia, the event has inspired and recruited more than 1.9 million participants.
Participants start November 1st clean shaven, and throughout the month grow out their facial hair. The participants are known as Mo Bros, and supportive women are known as Mo Sistas. The men become walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November, according to the movements mission statement. The Mo Bros of FFG participated and raised funds for the cause.
Participating in Movember is very important to me especially as a man, Foundation Financial Group Event Coordinator, Andrew Postell stated. One in two men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime, as compared with one in three women. And we are 35 percent more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than a woman is with breast cancer. And those figures double for African American men. Yet men are less likely to go to the doctor than a woman.
As this movement grows so will awareness to mens health, Postell continued. The complete eradication of cancer is the goal and if having our office grow mustaches helps achieve that goal then we will participate every year.
At the end of the month, Mo Bros either attend their own Movember parties or one of the well-known Gala Part
